General Plant Care

Upon receipt of your order, please remove rootstock (plants are topped at 24") from the bag immediately and check for signs of stress. Cut open the bundles and water them to ensure each rootstock is sufficiently hydrated. Do not leave rootstock in standing water. Instead, keep them moist with sawdust or a similar mulch until they are ready to be planted. Ideal storage temperature is between 35-40 degrees. Because of Ethylene gas’ damaging effect on rootstock, plants should be kept away from apples at all times, which contain Ethylene gas. Do not store rootstock in the same room or container as apples, without ventilation.  We recommend root pruning to about ½” as this can promote new root growth.
